Honestly, nothing beats a quick and easy shrimp pasta dinner that the whole family can enjoy. I make this recipe often during the week, and while my 4 year old isn’t a big pasta fan, my 6 year old absolutely loves it, especially the spice. My husband introduced him to bold flavors early, so I just adjust the heat a little so everyone can enjoy it.
Over time, I’ve made many versions of spicy shrimp pasta, but this one is our favorite. My husband doesn’t eat cheese, so we usually keep it light, but if your family loves it, Parmesan makes it even better. This garlic tomato shrimp pasta is quick, full of flavor, and tastes like a restaurant meal, but it’s ready in just 30 minutes perfect for busy weeknights.

Tips / Notes for Best Results
- Don't overcook the shrimp. Remove them from the skillet as soon as they turn pink to keep them tender and juicy.
- Reserve the pasta water. The starch helps create a silky sauce that clings beautifully to the spaghetti.
- Use fresh garlic. A whole bulb may seem like a lot, but it's what gives this dish its rich, bold flavor.
- Choose a dry white wine such as Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc for the best balance.
- Customize the heat. Increase the red pepper flakes to 1 teaspoon if you enjoy a spicier pasta.

By Tiffany Boakye-KorsahIngredients
For the Shrimp
- - 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- - Creole seasoning, to taste
- - Salt and black pepper, to taste
- - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- - 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Pasta
- - ½ pound spaghetti
- - cup reserved pasta water
For the Garlic Butter Sauce
- - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- - 1 tablespoon olive oil
- - 1 small purple onion, thinly sliced
- - 10–12 cloves garlic (1 whole bulb), finely grated
- - ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (or 1 teaspoon for extra heat)
- - ½ cup dry white wine
- - 1½ cups cherry tomatoes, halved
- - 1 cup reserved pasta water
- - Creole seasoning, to taste
- - Salt and black pepper, to taste
- - ¼ cup fresh basil leaves
- - ⅓ cup fresh parsley, chopped
- - 2 lemon slices
Instructions
Season the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season generously with Creole seasoning, salt, and black pepper on both sides.
Cook the Shrimp: Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. If the skillet becomes dry, drizzle in a little extra olive oil. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1–2 minutes per side, just until pink and opaque. Transfer the shrimp to a plate and set aside.
Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti until al dente according to the package directions. Before draining, reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.
Build the Garlic Butter Sauce: Return the skillet to medium heat. Add the remaining butter and olive oil. Once the butter has melted, add the diced onion, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Sauté for 3–4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onion is tender and the garlic is fragrant.
Deglaze and Cook the Tomatoes: Pour in the white wine and scrape up any flavorful browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let the wine simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly reduced. Add the cherry tomatoes and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften and burst. Pour in the reserved pasta water and stir everything together. Season with Creole seasoning, salt, and black pepper to taste.
Toss the Pasta: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss until every strand is coated in the garlic butter sauce. Stir in the chopped parsley and basil. Add the lemon slices and gently toss for about 1 minute to infuse the pasta with fresh citrus flavor. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Finish the Dish: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss until warmed through, about 1 minute. Serve immediately, garnished with additional parsley, fresh basil, and lemon wedges if desired.
