Tips / Notes for Best Results

    1. Lightly coat all sides in the custard — no need to soak. A thin layer is all you want. Have your pan hot and ready before you dip so you can go straight from dip to fry.
    2. Cook all four pieces at once if your pan fits them. Just keep an eye on each one and flip as needed so they brown evenly.
    3. Drop a fresh pat of butter on top right after cooking. It adds flavor and steams the toast just enough to keep it soft and gooey insid

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Bread: Brioche is perfect, but you can use any sturdy bread. I love to use multi-grain bread sometimes when I’m going for a more “health-conscious” option. Also Sourdough or challah works great too. For a creative twist, try stuffing French toast made from croissants or sweet dinner rolls. Avoid very thin white sandwich bread (it tends to get soggy) .

    • Filling: If you don't have Nutella you can also try peanut butter .

    • Spices and flavorings: Don’t be afraid to customize the spices. You can add ground allspice or cloves with the cinnamon.

    • Toppings: Besides the traditional powdered sugar and syrup, you can also serve with whipped cream or maple butter. Fresh fruits (bananas, strawberries, raspberries) complement the Nutella beautifully.

    Storing Leftovers

    1. Best eaten fresh, but leftovers keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave, a skillet, or a 350°F oven for 5 to 10 minutes.
    2. To freeze, lay cooled slices flat on a baking sheet until firm, then transfer to a freezer bag. Reheat straight from frozen at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.

    Easy Nutella-Stuffed Brioche French Toast

    By Tiffany Boakye-Korsah
    Prep time: 10 minutes
    Cook time: 10 minutes
    Servings: 4

    Ingredients

    • - 6 thick slices of brioche bread
    • - Nutella (chocolate-hazelnut spread) — roughly 1 teaspoon per slice, add more as needed
    • - 2 large eggs
    • - ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • - ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • - ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • -Oil, for cooking
    • - 1 tablespoon butter, placed on top of each toast right out of the pan to melt
    • - Sweetened condensed milk, for drizzling on top

    Instructions

Spread the Nutella: Spread Nutella on one side of each slice. Stack 3 slices together to make one sandwich. Repeat to make a second sandwich. Add a little more Nutella if you love a rich center.

Trim the Bread: Trim the crust off each slice on the stack for an even edge. This helps the sandwiches seal better and cook evenly.

Make the batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.

Dip the sandwiches: Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with oil. Dip each Nutella-stuffed sandwich into the batter, coating both sides evenly. Let any excess drip off before placing it in the pan.

Cook the French toast: Cook 2 to 3 minutes per side on medium low heat until deeply golden. If browning too fast lower the heat. Let it cook through so that Nutella gets nice and gooey inside.

Serve and top: Transfer to a plate and immediately place a small pat of butter on top so it melts into the hot toast. Drizzle with extra sweetened condensed milk and serve warm.
